History

In the era of Sultan Ibrahim Lodhi & his governor Dolat Khan who was the governor of Lahore, some people laid the base of new village near Shiekhupura which was about 83 KM from the northwest of the province Lahore. According to Mushi Gopal Das’s book “History of Gujranwala” in 1872 said that some of the people from Jutt Caste “Chandhar Jutt” laid the base of that village also which they named “Chandharanwala” on their caste, then after passing few years unfortunately due to some unknown reason this village Chandharanwala becomes an isolated place then it remains isolated for more then 120 years.

Then in the era of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan some people of another jutt caste from Karial Kalan ( a nearby village) on the top of list ”Khakhar Singh Virk” went to this isolated village to settle down here and he also built some new houses, now this village was newly renovated so this time their name was converted to ”Now-shera” which means the new city after passing years many people from many castes & villages settled in this town and this land was also surrounded by Virk majority villages, So on that time this caste Virk also got majority in Nowshera and it’s name was called with ”Nowshera Virkan” which means ”the New City with Virk Jutts”.

On the other side another story was also told by the ancestors of this land on the top list an early native late ”Muhammad Ali Gondal” said that “Nowshera” was named due to the nine roads were intersects here and ”Virkan” was after the Jutt caste which is “Virk” due to the majority of Virks & their villages around this land.

Before the partition many villages were under the control of Sikhs, after the partition many Sikh families migrated towards India but their sacred places shows the early presence of Sikhs at Nowshera Virkan and some of the areas were renamed after Sikhs left this place and the Muslim migrants families also settled here due to the land allotment but many Muslim natives were living before 1947 with Sikhs.
